Block heater water pump coil

Built-in pump ---------10000pcs 3.5 USD each

When designing the engine heater with built-in water pump, we took into consideration that the space inside the engine compartment of many vehicles, is relatively small.

Our design idea was to minimize the form factor of the block heater. After our engineers’ selection and testing, we finally chose a magnetic pump. This is a pump rotor that relies on alternating current to generate an interactive magnetic field, and the pump rotor with rare earth magnets will rotate at high speed under the interactive magnetic field. At the end of the rotor, there is an impeller. When the rotor rotates at high speed, it drives the impeller to rotate and the centrifugal force is generated, which allows the coolant to flow.
However, the magnetic pump does not have a pumping function. So, when installing the heater, you need to make sure, that there is no air present inside the block heaters and inside the coolant piping. If air is present in the cooling system, the pump will work intermittently.
We are now also designing large engine block heaters, which are designed for large machinery and large generator sets. They will be relatively large in size, and, the water pumps are different.

It may be that your company has special requirements for the pump, we can also customize it for you.

Power cord --------- --10000 pcs $3.5 each

Engine block heaters need to be connected to 110V or 220V AC. The length of the standard engine heater power cord is 1 meter. The diameter of the power cord is 1.5 square millimeters (the American standard is AWG16).

Your user will need to have additional power cords for the heater depending on the parking location and the distance from the power source.
This is because the heater is installed in the engine compartment of the vehicle. When the vehicle engine is running, the temperature of the engine compartment will be higher. We use a silicone rubber power cord as a protective layer for the heater power cords, which can withstand temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius.

Connection Cable

EU Standard Power Cord

Armored Power Cord

We also have the option of offering power cords with armor. You can install the block heaters in the right place. One side of the wire connects to the block heaters, and the other side can be mounted at the vehicle’s entry grill, so when your users need to use the heater, they can easily connect to the power source.

Block Heater temperature controller

Thermostat --------- -20,000 units $1.90 each

Many years ago, we designed our engine block heaters to use only one thermostat. Later, we modified some models of heaters to add additional thermostats in order to allow for more precise temperature control and to make the heaters more reliable.

We use a material containing silver-nickel alloy for the thermostat contacts, and the thickness of the alloy reaches 0.25mm. our thermostats can have a life of 20,000 switching cycles. There is very little chance of thermostat failure over the entire design life of the block heaters.
The ceramic material used for the housing material of the Vvkb thermostat, ceramic material makes the operation of the thermostat more reliable.

Quality Control Process of Engine Block Heater

You must be very concerned about the quality of the various accessories you purchase, and you don’t want to buy products of bad quality.

Now let’s see how to control the quality of engine heater products.

Start from the selection of raw material suppliers

raw material procurement

When choosing a raw material supplier, it is important to consider the consistency of raw material quality. We usually work with suppliers who have a long history and a good reputation. Also, we need to prepare 2-3 raw material suppliers, so that when the main raw material suppliers have problems, we can have alternative suppliers to supply without delaying the delivery time.

Control of the production process of semi-finished products

Heat exchanger aluminum die-casting workshop

The manufacturing process of the engine block heater housing is aluminum die casting.
The requirement for the heater housing is that there is no trachoma present. This requires that the molten aluminum material be sufficiently drossed during the aluminum die casting process so that the molten aluminum is free of excess impurities. After sufficient slag removal of aluminum melt, die-casting out of the product appearance beautiful, no trachoma exists.

Manufacture of water pump

Production of diesel heater spare parts

The magnets of the water pump need to be formed in one piece, and make the gap of the magnets as small as possible. This process, can reduce the energy loss of the magnets.
The enameled wire used for the water pump coil is an important factor in determining the quality of the water pump product.
The insulation of the enameled wire needs to be resistant to temperatures up to 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit).
The rotor of the water pump is made of pressed rare earth material , which has a weak magnetic property and will not have any effect on the electrical part of the vehicle.

Overall engine heater inspection

Test the diesel heater

After the assembly of the engine block heater is completed, the heater is tested for airtightness to eliminate the presence of water leaks in the heater.
The insulation test of the heater is another important test, the insulation test can make the heater safe and reliable.
We also need to test the water pump of the heater to make sure that the water pump is running without fail.

The Basic Knowledge of Engine Block Heater

This section introduces you to engine block heaters, it covers all the basics you may need, including how the heater works, the construction and the effects the heater achieves.
We recommend that you read this section carefully. You can have a clearer understanding of engine block heaters.

What is an engine and how it work

An engine consists of many different transmission components that work closely together to form a device that converts the chemical energy of the fuel into electrical energy.
The fuel in an engine is mainly burned in the cylinder, and the drive system, such as the piston and crankshaft, converts the energy produced when the fuel is burned, into kinetic energy.

The clearance of the engine, determines the efficiency of the engine. Therefore, the fit between the engine components is quite tight. The components of the engine are made up of various metal materials such as iron alloy and aluminum alloy. The metal materials are subject to thermal expansion and contraction at different temperatures.
When the phenomenon of thermal expansion and contraction occurs, the gap between the engine parts may become larger or smaller. If the gap becomes bigger, the engine can still work. If the clearance becomes small, the engine transmission part may seize.

Engine Block Heater

Therefore, in designing the clearance between engine parts, the clearance between parts is designed with the temperature when the engine is working. And the temperature of the engine when it is working is about 90 degrees Celsius. Therefore, when the engine temperature reaches about 5 degrees Celsius, the engine parts appear cold shrinkage phenomenon.
Every transmission part of the engine is filled with engine oil, which reduces friction between transmission parts.
When the engine is at a stop, the engine oil will flow into the engine oil pan because of gravity. However, between the engine parts, there will be a small amount of engine oil present. When the engine starts working, the engine oil will flow between the parts.

Heat map of conventional cars

When the temperature drops, the lubricating oil will condense because of the low temperature. And the contact area between the piston and the cylinder is large. After the piston and cylinder are condensed by the lubricant, it is difficult for the starter of the vehicle to drive the piston to work. This is one of the reasons why it is difficult to start the vehicle when the temperature is low.
Next to the engine cylinder, there are coolant lines around. These coolant lines are to prevent the high temperature from fuel combustion when the engine is working, which can damage the engine.

In cold weather, use the Vvkb engine heater to warm coolant by radiator hose and let the heated coolant flow through the coolant tube next to the cylinder, thus making the cylinder temperature rise and the oil melt and flow easily. The effect of hot start is achieved.

What is an engine block heater and what does a block heater actually do?

An engine block heater is a warm coolant device, which is also a device that converts electrical energy into thermal energy.
By heating the coolant in the engine cooling system, the engine block heater transfers heat to the engine through the coolant, allowing the engine temperature to rise and the oil to flow smoothly as it melts, thus allowing the engine to easier starts in winter.

Which engine heaters are the most popular with my customers? What type of engine heater do I want to offer my customers?

Based on the ease of installation and the effectiveness of the engine block heater, the tank type engine block heater with built-in water pump is the most popular product.

The main reasons are:

  • Reasonable price, users only need to spend a small amount of money to be able to solve the cold start problem of the engine in winter.
  • Easy installation, directly connected in the coolant hose.
  • Highly compatible, able to work on all engines that use coolant.
  • With a built-in temperature controller that allows the heater to operate within the proper temperature without the heater working too long and causing high coolant temperatures that can damage the cooling system.
  • Easy to replace, when there is a heater failure and the heater needs to be replaced, your user is able to easily remove the old heater and replace it with a new one. There is no need to make any changes to the vehicle’s piping.
  • With a built-in water pump, although the tank heater without a built-in water pump is able to rely on gravity circulation. However, the presence of a built-in water pump can assist in the flow of heated coolant and shorten the heater’s working time.

How do I install an engine block heater?

The installation of engine block heaters with built-in water pump is very easy.
Let’s take the Vvkb engine block heater Titan-P1 as an example to see the installation video of the heater.

Next, let’s disassemble the installation steps of the heater.

  1. Select the proper coolant hose and cut the coolant hose.
  2. Open the tank cover to release the engine coolant directly and use a container to collect the released coolant.
  3. Put the hose clamps outside the coolant hose.
  4. Connect the water inlet of the block heater to the coolant hose, and tighten the screw of the hose clamp.
  5. Place the engine heater connected to the coolant hose about 10cm-20cm below the tank port.
  6. Add coolant from the tank port until coolant overflows from the heater outlet. (Please note that the speed of adding coolant should be slow and the air inside the coolant hose and heater should be completely discharged)
  7. Connect the engine heater outlet to the other end of the coolant hose and tighten the screws of the hose clamps.
  8. Continue to add the remaining coolant and add additional coolant until the tank is filled with coolant.
  9. Check the engine heater housing to make sure the hose connections are reliable and that there is no leaking antifreeze.
  10. Start the engine and allow the vehicle’s existing pump to work, allowing coolant to circulate through the cooling system and expel any excess air.
  11. Check the water tank port, if there is a lack of coolant, continue to add coolant until the tank is filled with coolant.
  12. Tighten the water tank cover and place the electrical cord in the proper position. The heater is completed installed.

Engine block heater faults and solutions

It is possible that your users will encounter various failures in the process of using the engine heater. We have compiled a list of engine heater failures and their solutions.

The block heater casing is very hot and the water pump works intermittently.

A normally working engine block heater with a built-in water pump has a casing that is just a little warmer than the ambient temperature.
If the block heater housing is very hot, it means that the heater is malfunctioning. This is the most encountered fault of the heater.
Cause of failure: This is the presence of air inside the heater or coolant hose, or a burned out heater water pump.
If a new block heater has this problem, the solution is.

Engine coolant heater Titan-P5 installation diagram

Remove the block heater from the coolant hose and reinstall it. We recommend that you follow our procedure for installation.
When adding coolant, do it relatively slowly. After adding coolant, let the engine run for a few minutes.
If this problem occurs with a block heater that has been in use for a while, the solution is to
Check if the water pump can work properly.
The check is to energize the block heater for a few seconds, if the water pump fails and the block heater housing can feel no vibration, this means the water pump is burnt.
The solution is to replace the heater water pump.

The block heater has a leakage condition.

The cause of failure, may be the electrical part of the block heater has coolant or liquid into it, resulting in heater leakage.
The block heater electric element burned, or motor burned and thermostat failure, may lead to leakage situation.

Engine Block Heater Accessories Diagram

Solution:
Remove the block heater from the vehicle’s cooling system and open the electrical portion of the heater. If there is fluid in the electrical portion, you will need to find the cause of the leak.
It could be that there is fluid entering the electrical portion of the heater along the heater housing. Or there may be a problem with the heater seal that is causing the heater to leak.
Once you find the cause of the leak, troubleshoot it. And dry the electrical part. Next, measure the resistance of the block heater plug with a multimeter. If there is resistance present in the heater plug, the heater is ready for normal operation.
If the electrical part of the heater is completely dry. Then the heating element or the pump and thermostat may be faulty. When you open the electrical part of the heater, you are able to easily see that the water pump and thermostat are faulty. If there is no problem with the pump and thermostat, then it is the heating element that is faulty.
You will need to replace the faulty parts.

How warm does a block heater keep your engine?
The engine of an average car can be started easily at 10-20 degrees Celsius. And, it will not affect the engine.
You only need to energize the block heater for 30 to 60 minutes and the engine will be able to reach the desired temperature.

Engine block heaters warm the engine by heating the coolant in the vehicle's circulation system and allowing the heated coolant to warm the engine. The use of a block heater has only benefits for the engine, without damaging it.

You can see the price on our retail website: www.RVheater.com

According to the working principle of the block heater, the heater is connected to the cooling system of the vehicle. And the cooling system is not going to catch fire.
The block heater uses 110V or 230V voltage. And, the power of the heater varies from 500W-3000W. When the heater is working, the current intensity through the wire will be higher. And the block heater usually has to use extra extension cords. You need to take into account the cross-sectional area of the wire. If the cross-sectional area of the wire is too small, the excessive current flowing through the wire may cause the wire to get hot and there will be a fire hazard.
When the block heater with built-in water pump works, the water pump will take away the heat and the temperature of the heater housing is not particularly to.
However, there can be a situation where the water pump does not work properly. If the pump does not work properly, the heater housing temperature, may exceed 80 degrees Celsius (degrees Fahrenheit, the housing temperature of a heater without a built-in pump can also be very high). When installing the heater, we recommend that the heater be approximately 15 cm(6 in) away from the fuel line.

The normal length of wire for a cylinder heater, is 1-1.5 m. Vvkb heaters are also paired with special connecting wires that connect up to 5 m in length. However, additional extension cords may be required.
The principle of extension cord selection is based on the rated power of the heater. For the safety of electricity, try to now thicker diameter wires.

The power of the block heater varies from 500W-3000W. To choose the right power for your engine block heater, you have to take into account the size of your engine, the volume of coolant in your vehicle's cooling system and the minimum temperature in your city in winter.
Typically, for sedans and ATVs, VTUs and go-karts, we recommend choosing a 1000W block heater.
For other large vehicles, we recommend 1500W for US and Canadian customers, and 2000W or 2500W for European and Australian customers.
The same engine, choose different power cylinder heater, they have different working time. High power engine heater, working time will be shorter, low power heater, working time need longer.

If you wish to see if the engine has reached sufficient temperature, you can start the engine without unplugging it.
However, if you are pulling the vehicle out of a parked position, you will need to unplug it.

The design life of common engine block heaters generally reaches 3-5 years.
Vvkb engine block heaters have a design life of 5-8 years.

When the outdoor temperature reaches 5 degrees Celsius,(41 degrees Fahrenheit) the engine's cold shrinkage begins to appear. By starting the engine cold, it increases the wear and tear on the engine.
As an engine heater manufacturer, we recommend that you use an engine block heater when the outside temperature falls below 5 degrees Celsius(41 degrees Fahrenheit)

Depending on the design, Vvkb engine block heaters come with one thermostat or two thermostats.

Cars in high latitude areas should be equipped with a block heater in order to reduce the cost of using the vehicle.
While in tropical areas, the block heater may not be used.

At low temperatures, engine oil can solidify in the oil pan. You can use an oil pan heater to heat the sump and allow the engine oil indirectly to be heated. You can also use a magnetic heater to allow the engine oil to melt.
The oil pan of iron material when magnetic heater. And aluminum or other material oil pan, you can use oil pan heater.

The dipstick heater is in direct contact with the oil and the engine oil directly be heated. There is no need for professionally installed, and dipstick heater replaces are very convenient.
This is the reason why many users consider choosing dipstick heaters.
However, the power of dipstick heaters is too small and, moreover, the effect is not very satisfactory. We recommend that you choose another style of heater.
